Christian School?

In 1893, the National Education Association had this to say about the role of God in the schools,

If the study of the Bible is to be excluded from all state schools – if the inculcation of the principles of Christianity is to have no place in the daily program – if the worship of God is to form no part of the general exercises of these public elementary schools – then the good of the State would be better served by restoring all schools to church control.
I could not have put it better. I have believed in Christian School for a long time, and it is for those very reasons mentioned in this quote. What is the purpose without God? Can we pull ourselves up by our own merits? Are we improving ourselves without Him?

Do I think that the public schools should be abandoned... ?

(Actually, yes.)

  1. I agree with you that God should be in all education...but I'm not sure what I think about Christian schools either...it seems to me that they produce kids who do not know anything about the real world and kids who are poorly equipped socially and spiritually to handle what is thrown at them after leaving...what do you think?..(you've obviously seen more than i have of this)

  2. There is so much that I want to say about your comment that I might have to write an entire post about it...

Here are two thoughts (that I will go into further detail on later...)

One, to be prepared to handle the world, and what it throws at you, you need to be familiar with Christ and His word. Familiarity with the world doesn't make things better, it just makes them more familiar.

Secondly, Schools don't produce anything, parents do. Parenting has way more to do with how a child turns out than the school that they go to.

You have inspired me, but it may take a couple of days before I have a proper response.
