Doodling

When I was young, I used to doodle. As I got older, my doodling dwindled. Sure, there was the occasional doodle, dangling near the end of a diagram... There was also the doodle for my darling... wife. This kept up my drawing abilities, as I would occasionally divulge in my dangling, dwindling doodling.

My youngest son also doodles. His divergent doodles have reminded me of my own desire to draw, so lately my doodling has returned. It is the dawn of a new day of doodling.

(and yes... At least as much went into the house when he dropped the gallon of milk.)

The Fantastic Flying Books of Morris Lessmore

If you know me, then you know that I love books.  This little story really hit home.  It is the story of Morris Lessmore and the Fantastic Flying Books.  The video's creator gave it this description:
“Morris Lessmore” is a story of people who devote their lives to books and books who return the favor. Morris Lessmore is a poignant, humorous allegory about the curative powers of story.
I believe it won an award or two.  Watch it and see if you can read anything into this story.

Migraine Aura

I was sitting there reading a book when I started to notice a blurred spot in the middle of my vision.  I tried to ignore it, but it was getting more noticeable as the moments passed.  After about 30 seconds to a minute I couldn't read because it was distorting the words.

Needless to say, it was a little disturbing.  Especially because it kept getting bigger. Not only could I not read, I was having trouble walking around the room.  When it gradually started to move to the side, but it was still getting larger, I decided to google these symptoms.

After a bit of searching I ran across this article by the Mayo Clinic that described the experience perfectly.  I was experiencing either a Migraine Aura (or possibly an ocular migraine).  They said it was harmless and would go away on its own.  Eventually it did, but it left a headache that was settled nicely behind my eyes.

I'm feeling fine this morning, but it defeated the majority of my sermon prep last night.

Black Squirrel

There is a squirrel living in my neighborhood that is jet black.  After talking to a few people, this isn't as weird as I originally thought it was, but this is the only black squirrel I've ever seen in my life.  Supposedly there are more of them living in other parts of the country, but I've never seen one in Danville before.

Anyway, I finally snapped a picture of it.  (Just to prove it to the Danville People.)

8 ominously vicious animal photos

I am reposting this from the 22 words blog. Here is a link to the original...

8 ominously vicious animal photos:
These images and their captions are all taken from The Telegraph’s 2010 Animal Pictures of the Year.

Shark and Seal

A lucky seal launches itself to safety from the mouth of a great white shark – using the predator’s razor sharp teeth for leverage. Photographer Chris Fallows, 38, watched as the Cape fur seal darted left and right in a desperate bid to evade the vicious 11-foot-long shark. The massive creature failed to get a proper grip allowing the seal to launch itself to safety as the shark tried to get a second bite. Miraculously, the seal escaped with a minor flesh wound off Seal Island in False Bay, Cape Town, South Africa

Pelican and Pigeon

An unlucky pigeon takes its final look at the world – peeking out from a pelican’s beak. The little bird had been eating near a pond in St James Park, London, when it was scooped up by the much bigger bird. Adults and children watched in horror as the pigeon tried desperately to escape for 15 minutes. At one point it looked like it was going to break free as the pelican opened its beak, allowing the pigeon to gaze out. But the startled creature missed its opportunity and was swallowed whole. Photographer Paul Mansfield, 44, captured the remarkable scene while on a day trip to the capital with his family.

Tigers and Chicken

Siberian tigers look up waiting for a chicken to land at the Siberian Tiger Park in Harbin, China. Visitors to the park can buy birds for 50 yuan (£4.50), pieces of meat, or even a live calf to be fed to the tigers…

Eagle and Starling

This tiny starling didn’t stand a chance when a hungry bald eagle swooped in for a mid-air snack. The bird flies on, unaware of the enormous predator closing in behind it

Crocodile and Elephant

Photographer Martin Nyfeler was traveling through South Luangwa National Park in Zambia when he saw this female elephant and her baby drinking from the Luangwa River. Leaping out of the murky waters a vicious crocodile set upon the pair, biting into the female’s trunk. Aided by her baby, she survived the attack and was seen feeding from the river later in the day.

Heron and Gopher

A gopher looks horrified as it realises that it is dinner for a heron in Arrowhead Marsh, California

Elephant and Lizard

Madhuri, an Indian elephant, swings a monitor lizard around by its tail. The unlucky creature had been swept off the ground and was carried around for a number of days by the elephant. With its tail firmly clamped in the animal’s trunk the lizard was swung around and occasionally put back on the ground. The scene was captured by Jagdeep Rajput during a trip to Corbett National Park in India

Frog and Mouse

A mouse looks out from the jaws of a huge voracious African bullfrog. These carnivorous amphibians have an aggressive temper and can jump 3.5 metres.

Important Instructions for Parents

I have seen these on other blogs before, but I decided to find them and put them into a presentation...

One Day Without Shoes

Unfortunately they won't allow me to go one day without shoes in the school... some nonsense about regulations or codes... but as soon as the day is over, I am dropping the shoes!

Why would I do this?  April the 8th is One Day Without Shoes Day.  I would fill you in on all of the details, but there is a website that does a much better job.

Needing Some Motivation!

I usually come back from Spring Break with my head in the game.  I am all set for the last several weeks of school.  I am trying to get everything done that I can get done, but not this time.  I am suffering from MDD (Motivation Deficit Disorder).

I am already suffering from ADD, with the occasional bout of OCD, but with this new onset of MDD I am just not sure what to do.

I think that I need an exquisite, thoughtful, meaning-filled quote to get through these next few weeks.  Anybody have any amazing quotes to inspire me on to teaching greatness?!?

Vote for this Video!

A few of my students are in a multimedia class at the school and they are trying to win a contest...

Please consider helping them out by going to this site and voting for Video #6.

2nd Highest Month Ever!

This blog, which started in September of 2003, just reached its second highest month in its recorded history.

1278 visits!

I switched from a different stat counter to Google Analytics early in 2007.  Since I switched, I hit my record of 1291 visits in October of 2008.

I don't know why I am posting this.

Voicemail From Nephew

I just got my first voicemail from my nephew and thought I would share it with you.

Googles of Fun

I found this one on the Chrome Experiments page.  Play a trick on Grandma and tell her that she broke the internet!  Let her tap the top of the screen before it happens.  The "gravity" doesn't set in until your mouse moves over the screen.  (Make sure you search for something and watch the results fall down as well.)

This is another fun one.  Watch all of the other links swirl around the Google logo as you move your mouse.

After the page loads, click anywhere on the page and after 5 seconds the "oo" in Google disappears.  Click again and they reappear.  If you rub your fingers on the screen while the "oo" is disappearing, it adds a nice little affect.

What You Are

"What you are speaks so loudly, I can't hear what you are saying."
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I saw this quote the other day, and there were so many different images that popped into my mind. Faces of different people I know, politicians that I read about or hear about on the radio, etc. But then I began to wonder about myself. Does my life speak in such a way that it mirrors my words and my speeches? When I preach? When I lecture a student? When I talk with my kids? Is there a strong enough correlation between life and speech that the message is amplified or muted?

I won!

Over at Challies.com, you can always find Free Stuff Fridays... At least you can on Fridays...

A couple of weeks ago I decided to start dropping my name in the hat to see if I could win something.  This last time I won a year's subscription of Table Talk.

Tim Challies describes Table Talk:
Tabletalk is a tool that helps you grow in your knowledge of God and in your love for His Son and His people. Each month is packed with more than 60 pages of focused, practical Bible study and insightful commentary by today’s top Christian thinkers. Over the years, Tabletalk has been recognized for its excellence through several awards. Today, people all over the world read Tabletalk on a daily basis. The magazine is regularly found in seminary libraries and churches throughout the country. Many credit Tabletalk with helping them maintain a solid life of study and prayer.
Here is a sample issue.

I used the Church's address when I filled out the form, so our church is now getting a year's subscription.

Just thought I would let you know.

I won.
